Reno is John Center
"In July of 2002, Boyd Reno approached
me to inquire about recording his solo record. I knew Mr.
Reno from his other occupation as front man of Albuquerque,
NM's Oh, Ranger! We were among a community of rockers that
made up Red Door Studios located on Historic Route 66 in downtown
Albuquerque, NM.
Reno's Recording project began with first laying down live
acoustic guitar and vocals tracks. Immediately, I was taken
by the irreverent beauty in his compositions. We then set
forth implementing electronic accompanyments. followed by
a barrage of musical contributions by other Red Door denizens.
Reno's songs quickly transformed into spontaneous works of
pop art. At two compositions per week. we were able to complete
the tracking within one month's time.... Smooth and fun. By
the time the project was completed, the studio and the bands
were evicted from the Red Door after more than ten years of
rock operation. It is the last album recorded in that space
adding a new sense of sadness and sentiment to it's completion..
With Heart Positions in the can, we set about, forming a band.
The next challenge was to actualize the music. Given the nature
of our eclectic approach in producing the arrangements, we
thought that recreating a live representation would be difficult.
We culled from the pool of contributing talent, the individuals
who would comprise the act. With me, John Center, Center's
sister Nora Bangkok, 'His Arm's Broken' and Little Kiss Record's
C.E.O., Man Cell, we done had ourselves an outfit brandishing
a sound unique to the record.
We believe our project so be special in light of Reno's song
writing genius coupled with our casual approach to creating
the arrangements resulted in an enchanted wonderland sprinkled
with sonic dews. Stacy Randal of Transmission magazine is
quoted; "(Heart Positions) is artistic, expressive, melodic
and emotive" adding "this is one of the best productions
I've heard come out of burque rock city' in a long long time."
